Smart Formatting is a new beta feature in CarePilot that automatically applies bold and italic text to highlight important information in your HPI, Assessment & Plan, as well as italicizing pertinent or abnormal findings in the Physical Exam and Review of Systems.
Note: Smart Formatting is in beta, you may notice ongoing improvements and refinements over time. We appreciate your feedback as we continue to enhance this feature!
What Does Smart Formatting Do?
Automatically bolds keywords, diagnoses, and other high-impact information in your History of Present Illness (HPI), Assessment & Plan, Patient Instructions & Discussion Notes sections.
Bolds & Italicizes any pertinent or abnormal findings in the Physical Exam (PE) and Review of Systems (ROS) sections, helping you and your team quickly identify what needs attention.
When to Use It
Use Smart Formatting if you want CarePilot to:
Automatically highlight important or critical items in your notes—without needing to add bold or italics manually every time.
Help visually organize key points, making your documentation more scannable and reducing the risk of missing important information.
How to Turn Smart Formatting On/Off
Go to Settings in the left navigation menu.
In the Other Preferences section, locate Smart Formatting.
Toggle the switch to On or Off according to your preference.
Once enabled, Smart Formatting will be applied to all newly generated notes (HPI, Assessment & Plan, PE, ROS). If you turn it off, you’ll return to the standard text formatting.
How to Teach Smart Formatting What to Bold or Italicize
You can fine-tune Smart Formatting by using the Learn Format button:
Open a note you’ve created in CarePilot.
Make manual formatting changes (e.g., using Command/Control + B to bold, or Command/Control + I to italicize) where you want them.
Click Learn Format.
CarePilot will analyze your examples and learn how you want to bold and italicize text in future notes.
Tip: You can provide multiple examples if you have different formatting preferences for different note types or encounter scenarios.
Manually Adjusting Formatting in Your Notes
Even with Smart Formatting turned on, you can still make manual changes:
Bold text: Use Command/Control + B on selected text.
Italicize text: Use Command/Control + I on selected text.
We hope this guide helps you get the most out of Smart Formatting. As it’s a beta feature, please share your feedback so we can continue to refine and improve it for you!
