What Is a Voice Macro and How Does It Work?

A voice macro, located under the "Dictionary" tab is a powerful feature in CarePilot that lets you automate repetitive or commonly used phrases in your clinical documentation. By using a voice-activated trigger, you can instantly populate predefined text into your notes, saving time and reducing the need for manual typing.

How Does a Voice Macro Work?

  1. Create a Trigger:

    1. Assign a specific word or phrase as the voice command (trigger) for the macro

  2. Define Autofill Text:

    1. Write the content you want to appear in the note when the trigger is used. This could include instructions, explanations, or common assessments.

  3. Select the Section:

    1. Choose the section of the note (e.g., HPI, A/P, ROS) where the autofill text should appear.

  4. Activate and Use:

    1. During documentation, say the trigger phrase aloud, and CarePilot will automatically insert the predefined text in the specified section.

Common Examples of Voice Macros

Here are some examples of how voice macros can streamline your workflow:

  • Trigger: “Diabetes Management”

    • Autofill Text:

      • “Discussed diabetes management, including glucose monitoring, dietary modifications, and the importance of medication adherence. Patient advised to follow up in three months for reassessment.”

        • Section: A/P

  • Trigger: “Follow-Up Instructions”

    • Autofill Text:

      • “Patient instructed to follow up in two weeks or sooner if symptoms worsen. Contact information for the clinic provided.”

      • Section: Plan

  • Trigger: “Chest Pain Evaluation”

    • Autofill Text:

      • “Patient evaluated for chest pain. Discussed risk factors, diagnostic options, and initial management plan. ECG and labs ordered for further assessment.”

      • Section: A/P

Best Practices for Using Voice Macros

  • Be Specific: Use clear and concise trigger phrases to avoid accidental activation.

  • Tailor to Your Workflow: Create macros for the phrases you use most often, like patient instructions or routine assessments.

  • Organize by Section: Assign macros to specific sections of the note for better organization and usability.

  • Test Your Macros: Practice using your macros to ensure they work seamlessly during documentation.

Benefits of Voice Macros

  • Save Time: Quickly insert commonly used text without typing.

  • Improve Accuracy: Reduce errors by using pre-approved, standardized text.

  • Streamline Workflow: Focus more on patient care and less on documentation.
